What is a Bid

Why We Need BIDS

Dublin City Centre and its environs will shortly see the completion of major and unprecedented capital investment including the LUAS, Port Tunnel, Smithfield Square, James Joyce Bridge, Macken St. Bridge and O'Connell Street Plaza.

However from suburban shopping centres, to easily accessible international cities to Internet shopping never before have the city's customers, visitors and residents had so many other options for shopping, leisure and cultural entertainment. It is a great city however its image is marred by drink related public disorder crime making people feel unsafe, by overflowing rubbish bins, by cigarette butts, by vomit filled streets, by broken pavements by graftti etc.

Our city must improve its image if it is to remain competitive and attractive not only to these customers but to those in Ireland as well.

The challenge that confronts the business community is to provide our day-time economy and our night-time economy customers with the highest standard environment and experience similar to that provided by other international capital cities and suburban competition; streets that are clean, aesthetically pleasing and safe and provide our customers with a pleasurable experience.

Existing Services

We are currently experiencing a growth in population and an ever-greater demand on the services provided by the local authority.  The forecast of additional people living in the Dublin's City Centre by 2010 is 60,000.

The resources of Dublin City Council are stretched in the provision and management of services required by its ever increasingly sophisticated city and population.  The business community continues to fund this proportionately but we will see a further decline in the level of services and standards outside our front doors.

Businesses have a unique opportunity to directly influence and take ownership of our own areas and the environmental standards of those areas.
